Privacy Policy

From homeowners: your name and email address (your account); your project category and description; any project photo you upload; your messages with the contractor who claimed your request; and the rating and comment you leave after delivery.

Payment metadata from Stripe: when you pay the flat $75, Stripe processes the card and tells us the essentials we need to run the marketplace — that a payment succeeded, the amount, and identifier numbers that let us match a payment to a request and to a refund. We never receive or store your card number.

From contractors: your name, email, trade specialties, service area, license number and issuing state (used for vetting), the opinions you deliver, and — for payouts — a Stripe Connect account identifier.

Basic technical data: ordinary server logs and the cookies needed to keep you signed in.

Card numbers. Payments are handled by Stripe, on Stripe's own systems. Card details never touch Propinion's servers or database.

Bank account and routing numbers. Contractor payouts run through Stripe Connect, where the contractor enters bank details directly with Stripe. We store only the Connect account identifier — never a routing or account number.

To match your request to an approved contractor in that trade and deliver the written opinion; to take payment and, where our refund policy applies, issue the refund; to send transactional email — account confirmation, request claimed, opinion delivered, refund processed; to run quality review, including the public ratings on contractor profiles; to settle contractor payouts; and to meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations.

The licensed contractor who claims your request sees the project details and photo you posted, plus whatever you write in the message thread. That sharing is the service.

Stripe handles card payments and contractor payouts, so it receives what it needs to do that. We use a transactional email provider to send the account and request emails described above, and we host the site with a hosting provider. That's the list.

We don't sell your information, and we don't hand it to advertisers. We'll disclose information only if the law requires it.

Account details stay while your account is active, plus as long as we need them for legal, tax, and dispute records. Project photos and descriptions live with the request through its lifecycle — they're part of showing what was asked and what was delivered. Delivered opinion text and its timestamps are kept as delivery evidence, and payment records are kept as long as accounting rules require.

Email support@getapropinion.com to see what we hold about you, correct anything that's wrong, ask us to delete your account and data, or ask a question about this policy. We may need to keep some records (for example payment records) even after a deletion request, because the law requires it — if that applies, we'll tell you which records and why.

The site runs over encrypted connections, and sensitive credentials — the keys for payments, email, and the database — are held server-side in environment variables and never shipped to the browser. Access is limited to the small team that operates the service. No system is perfect, but we deliberately keep the most sensitive data (card numbers, bank details) with Stripe so it isn't ours to lose.

Propinion is for adults: the service isn't offered to anyone under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from children. If we learn we have, we'll delete it. If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Questions? Email support@getapropinion.com.
