Terms of Service

Last updated: September 16, 2026

These terms are between you and Propinion LLC ("Propinion", "we", "us") and cover how Propinion works and what you're agreeing to when you use it — whether you're a homeowner buying a written second opinion or a contractor delivering one. They're written in plain language on purpose. The refund mechanics live on the Refund & Dispute Policy page and form part of these terms.

1. The service

Propinion operates a marketplace where homeowners pay a flat $75 for a written second opinion on one project in one trade, and licensed contractors deliver those opinions for a set fee. Propinion provides the platform and payment processing; it does not perform the opinions — the licensed contractor who claims your request does.

2. Eligibility

You need to be 18 or older and able to enter a contract to use Propinion. You're responsible for the accuracy of what you put in your account. Homeowners: one project in one trade per request — whole-home renovations and new builds are out of scope. Contractors: you must hold a valid license in the state you claim to work in, and you must give us your license number and issuing state. Contractor accounts start as "pending review"; only approved contractors can claim requests or deliver opinions.

3. Fees and what your $75 buys

One flat $75 per opinion, charged when you post the request and paid through our payment processor. For each delivered opinion, the contractor receives $50 and Propinion keeps $25. What you buy is one structured written opinion — scope assessment, red flags, fair price range, recommended next steps — due within the posted delivery timeline (by default 48 hours from a contractor's claim, inside a request window of about 10 days from posting). You also get the message thread to ask follow-up questions about that opinion.

Undelivered? You're refunded automatically. If no opinion is delivered within the request window, the full $75 is refunded to your original payment method without you asking. Delivered opinions are non-refundable — the written opinion is a digital service, complete at delivery. The full policy, including how to raise a quality concern, is on the Refund & Dispute Policy page, which these terms include.

Contractor payouts are not instant: they're paid on a weekly run, typically within 48–72 hours of a delivered opinion, through Stripe Connect. Contractors enter their own bank details directly with Stripe — Propinion never holds them.

4. Contractor independence and obligations

Contractors who deliver opinions are independent professionals — not Propinion employees, partners, or agents. Propinion is the marketplace and payment processor; each contractor is solely responsible for the content and quality of the opinion they deliver.

Contractors agree to give an honest, professional, independent opinion based on the request as posted, to meet the delivery deadline (48 hours from claim, by default), to keep license information current, and not to steer homeowners into work, quotes, or payments outside the platform. We review delivered opinions and homeowner ratings as part of our quality process, and we can suspend or remove a contractor who doesn't meet these obligations.

5. Homeowner conduct

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive license to use the site for its intended purpose. You're responsible for what you post: it must be accurate and lawful. Keep full addresses and phone numbers out of project descriptions — the contractor needs the problem, not your location. Don't misuse the service, interfere with other users, or try to access systems you're not authorized to use. Ratings must reflect your honest experience; leave them for contractors you actually worked with.

6. No guarantee of outcomes

Opinions are informational second opinions from licensed contractors — not engineering or legal advice, and not a guarantee that any project will succeed or that any estimate will hold. Homeowners make their own decisions with the professionals they hire.

Structural and engineering work is out of scope. Propinion and its contractors do not provide structural or engineering opinions. Anything that requires a licensed structural engineer or a stamped review — load-bearing changes, foundations, framing, retaining walls — is rejected at posting and has to go to a licensed structural engineer. Propinion and its contractors assume no liability for structural or engineering matters, and nothing on this platform may be relied on as a structural or engineering opinion.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Propinion's total liability to you for any claim related to the service is limited to the $75 fee you paid for the opinion in question, and Propinion is not liable for the conduct, opinions, or advice of independent contractors.

8. Disputes and chargebacks

If something is wrong — an opinion that's late, missing, or not what you expected — email support@getapropinion.com before filing a chargeback. Most problems are sorted out in hours. A charge you didn't make or didn't authorize is always refunded in full. If a dispute is opened without contacting us, we respond with the delivery record — the opinion text and timestamps. The Refund & Dispute Policy has the full detail.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes. When we do, we update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and material changes get a notice the next time you use the site. Continuing to use Propinion after an update means you accept the updated terms.

10. Governing law and contact

These terms are between you and Propinion LLC and are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, USA (governing-law clause to be confirmed with counsel). Questions about these terms? Email support@getapropinion.com.
